The fact that the large Hippeknieps (goat knives) were once used as working knives in agriculture can still be guessed from their sturdy and simple construction. The pocket knives combine tradition and craftsmanship. Precise workmanship, coupled with European woods such as ice beech, root walnut or plum, give the knife its charm. The plates and rivets are made of brass. The head rivet is ground flush with the handle shells.
The Hippekniep (goat knife) is a simple and robust pocket knife. Rough handling and tough jobs like leverage work caused the blades of the classic predecessor models to loosen. A sturdier solution had to be developped: the rivet holding the blade firmly in position now comes equipped with a large semi-circular rivet in a broad casing. When needed, the rivet can simply be hammered in deeper if the blade begins to loosen after extensive use. This pocket knife is our large Hippekniep with handle shells made of smoked oak. There is a hole in the handle for fastening a band.

An ode to the heritage of the Bergisches Land and beyond The OTTER "Bergmann" combines traditional craftsmanship and innovation from the regions around Solingen in its design and is the perfect everyday companion The Bergmann is inspired by one of OTTER's very first knives, the Webermesser. The carbon blade with its very fine point refers to the original area of application in the textile and ribbon weaving mills of the Bergisches Land.
The compact and rounded ebony handle with its black colouring is a reference point to the coal of the Ruhr region. The copper structures in the Fat Carbon bolsters are reminiscent of formations in coal seams. These reminders of the diverse roots of the region from which OTTER knives originate are combined in this knife, which is made entirely by hand in Solingen, Germany's city of blades. At the IWA Knife Award 2024, the Bergmann was awarded 2nd place in the "Classic" category.
The mystically shimmering blue of the stabilized poplar wood inspired us to name this knife. The iridescent blue tones in combination with the cool double hollow bolsters, which look like dragon scales, give each knife a unique look. You can choose between a carbon and a stainless steel blade.
The FINN pocket knife is as modern as it is elegant. Its clear, unadorned form beautifully showcases the handle materials, either green Micarta or stabilized lime wood. A new feature is the addition of a locking mechanism at the end of the handle for the pocket knife. By pressing the lever, the blade is unlocked and can be folded. The backlock further enhances this high-quality knife and emphasizes its straightforward character.
The blade is made of Sandvik Steel 14C28N. Due to its slim blade thickness of only 2 mm, it can be sharpened very effectively.

This strong pocket knife possesses a very fine and interesting looking unlocking mechanism for the blade. The lever on the handle back gets pushed forward to unlock the blade. This lifts the spring and the blade can be folded in. This mechanism facilitates the safe handling of the knife. Bolsters, tang, lever and rivets are made of brass, the handle is made of buckhorn. When shopping for a utility knife, you should choose a carbon blade because of its easier re-sharpening properties and longer lasting edge. Another option is a blade made of stainless steel. It is more resistant to moisture and does not leave any residual metal taste.
