Our remake of the popular classic. The new Mercator Multi is much smaller and lighter than its predecessor. With a blade length of 7,5 cm it is a handy every day carrier. Like the bigger version it has a corkscrew. Instead of an awl it has a bottle opener which can also be used as a screwdriver. With this combination the small Mercator Multi is a multifunctional knife for daily routines as well as outdoor activities. The blade steel is either carbon or stainless steel.

Das "deutsche Victorinox"
Das "deutsche Victorinox"! Super robust, total stabil und sehr gut verarbeitet. Hat natürlich weniger Werkzeuge als der schweizer Kollege, aber dafür mehr Geschichte und Flair. Ich bin begeistert von dem schönen und sehr wertigen Stück. Tolle Arbeit!!

Das (fast) perfekte ultra-kompakte und stabile Reisemesser für Puristen
Ich habe mir das "MERCATOR MULTI KLEIN" in der nicht-rostfreien "Carbon" Variante als Begleiter für Outdoor, Camino und Traveling zugelegt.
Als erstes fällt die ultra-kompakte Bauweise auf die etwas einen cm kürzer als die normale Mercator Variante ausfällt. Dafür ist es etwa doppelt so dick, da ja noch Korkenzieher und Kapselheber / Schraubenzieher mit an Bord sind. Wobei die Bezeichnung "dick" nicht darüber hinweg täuschen darf dass es immer noch etxtrem flach und kompakt ist. Deutlich flacher als bspw. das kleine Schweizer Taschenmesser in ähnlicher Ausstattung.
Die Klinge rastet gut hörbar und ohne Spiel in dem um die Klinge herum gefalztes Blech ein. Dabei fällt auf dass diese ungewöhnlich dick und somit Stabil ist. Der Griff aus Stahl ist bei mir matt und offensichtlich nicht lackiert. Das gibt dem Griff einen zusätzlichen puristischen touch. Quasi wie direkt vom Meister aus der Schmiede gekommen. Zusätzlich bietet sich der Griff geradezu für Lasergravuren an.
Durch die flache und kompakte Bauweise unauffällig überall verstaubar und kaum in der Hosentasche wahrzunehmen. Wer möchte kann es sich auch an der am Messer befindlichen Öse per Reepschnur um den Hals hängen. Folglich das ideale "immer dabei" Messer, insbesondere für reisende.
Noch perfekter wäre es, wenn die Kaspselheber/Schraubenzieher Kombination auch noch Dosen öffnen könnte, so wie beim Schweizer Taschenmesser. Außerdem würde sich dieses in der größeren Variante mit Ahle noch in einer voll-Edelstahl Variante als das neue Seglermesser anbieten :-)
Ich zumindest bin total begeistert. Das wird mein zukünftiges Reisemesser.

The Mercator knife is a traditional German pocket knife. With the copper handle we have given this model a new appearance. The proven, slim handle and the classic blade shape have not been changed. A "legend" has returned. The 4-part Mercator pocket knife was produced more than 60 years ago by the Kaufmann und Söhne Company in Solingen. We have brought the knife back to life based on faded yellowing drawings. It is built to include 4 tools, just like in the olden days. A lockable knife blade, the awl for loosening knots and punching holes into leather and fabrics, the can opener, and a corkscrew. It takes more than 120 work processes for its manufacturing. Everything is crafted by hand. The awl and the can opener are forged on belt drop hammers, rough-ground and then finally fine-ground. The core in the corkscrew helix prevents the "crumbling" of the cork. The blade is made of carbon steel which holds its edge well, is sharpened and then receives another dry-fine grind. The handle, made of blued steel, doesn't have the non-rust properties of modern coatings, but it gives the knife a high-quality appearance. All these are properties that can hardly ever be found in the knives of today. The blade steel is C75 carbon steel. Belgian whetstones are used for sharpening the knives. These whetstones consist of a natural stone quarried from the Belgian Ardennes mountains. Their unique consistency makes it possible for us to grind the blades with precision and in a material-friendly way. The lighter layer is used for grinding, the slate layer on the bottom is simply to make the sharpening stone stronger. The Belgian whetstones must be wet before honing. Set the blade onto the stone at a sharp angle and pull it back in circular motions. A natural abrasive paste develops in this process, which sharpens the blade and polishes it finely at the same time. The Belgian whetstone no. 4 is the smaller one of our whetstones.
