MERCATOR Red – The Classic with Character and Leather Sheath
For more than 100 years, the MERCATOR pocket knife by OTTER-Messer has stood for simplicity, durability and honest functionality. This special version adds a bold touch of color to the iconic design with its red powder-coated metal handle – eye-catching, timeless and unmistakably classic.
The sturdy metal handle is tough and built for everyday use. At the end of the handle, a small section of the coating has been sanded off, revealing the bare metal beneath. This gives each knife a unique, slightly vintage character.
Please note: this exposed area is more prone to rust and should be kept dry and occasionally maintained.
The stainless steel blade offers reliable edge retention and excellent corrosion resistance, making it easy to care for and perfect for daily tasks.
The knife comes as a set with a soft genuine leather sheath made from brown coarse leather, providing both protection and a traditional look that perfectly matches the MERCATOR’s heritage.

MERCATOR Brass – with Personal Engraving
The Mercator and OTTER knife, these two terms are closely connected. Now there is also a knife that shows this connection. We have reissued the Mercator in its historical form. The Mercator is a traditional German pocket knife. With this new copper handle we gave it a new and exclusive look. Although the slim handle and classic blade were not changed. The embossed OTTER logo completes the extraordinary appearance of this knife. The Mercator copper is available with either a carbon or a stainless steel blade. Belgian whetstones are used for sharpening the knives. These whetstones consist of a natural stone quarried from the Belgian Ardennes mountains. Their unique consistency makes it possible for us to grind the blades with precision and in a material-friendly way. The lighter layer is used for grinding, the slate layer on the bottom is simply to make the sharpening stone stronger. The Belgian whetstones must be wet before honing. Set the blade onto the stone at a sharp angle and pull it back in circular motions. A natural abrasive paste develops in this process, which sharpens the blade and polishes it finely at the same time. The Belgian whetstone no. 4 is the smaller one of our whetstones.
