OTTER "Bergmann"
An Ode to the Heritage of the Bergisches Land and Beyond The OTTER "Bergmann" combines in its design the artisanal traditions and innovations of the regions around Solingen and is the perfect everyday companion The Bergmann is inspired by one of the very first knives from the house of OTTER, the Webermesser. The carbon blade with its very fine tip points to the original application area in the textile and ribbon weaving industries of the Bergisches Land. The compact and rounded handle made of ebony with its black color is a reference point to the coal of the Ruhr area. The copper structures in the bolsters made of Fat Carbon resemble formations in coal seams. These memories of the diverse roots of the region, from which OTTER knives originate, come together in this, completely handcrafted knife from Germany's city of blades, Solingen. In the election for "Knife of the Year 2025" by MESSER MAGAZIN in the folding knife category, the Bergmann took 1st place. At the IWA Knife Award 2024, the Bergmann was awarded 2nd place in the "Classics" category. Belgian whetstones BB 4
Belgian whetstones are used for sharpening the knives. These whetstones consist of a natural stone quarried from the Belgian Ardennes mountains. Their unique consistency makes it possible for us to grind the blades with precision and in a material-friendly way. The lighter layer is used for grinding, the slate layer on the bottom is simply to make the sharpening stone stronger. The Belgian whetstones must be wet before honing. Set the blade onto the stone at a sharp angle and pull it back in circular motions. A natural abrasive paste develops in this process, which sharpens the blade and polishes it finely at the same time. The Belgian whetstone no. 4 is the smaller one of our whetstones.
