The pruning knife is a knife for gardening and forestry uses. It can be used for cutting down branches, splitting sugar cane and other grasses, or trimming wound edges on trees and when grafting wood to refine it.
Colloquial names for this knife are also "goat knife", Heppe, Braxe, Praxe, greenery knife, slasher or simply garden knife.
The blades used for refining and grafting wood are often called "Kopulationshippen", "Kopulierhippen" or "Okulierhippen" in German.
These grafting knives are almost always folding knives. Typical for this kind of knife is the slightly curved downward curved blade tip.
